Uses
The tools behind the work. At home I run free and open-source software wherever there’s a good one, preferably with no account to sign into.
COMPUTERS
Arch Linux with dwm, st and dmenu, built from source and started with startx.
A System76 Pangolin running Linux, and a 14-inch MacBook Pro for work, made to behave like dwm with AeroSpace: nine tags, Alt as the modifier, the same keys.
An always-on Linux machine in the living room.
Android and iOS.
SOFTWARE
Neovim, with one config on every machine.
nnn, in the terminal.
st on Linux, Alacritty on the Mac.
Brave.
Syncthing, machine to machine, with no cloud in between.
Plain Markdown in git. Markor on the phone.
pwm2, my own password manager. The first version was 2013.
Claude Code, most days, for code and for keeping my notes in order.
mpd, with MPDart, a front end I wrote that shows the album art.
MAKING
A Nikon D750, shot in manual, with fast f/2.8 zooms. The photographs.
darktable, for years. Lately I’ve been testing LightCraft, an open-source raw editor that’s still in alpha.
Blender for models, Godot for games, and a Bambu Lab A1 for prints.
周虎臣 and 双羊 (Zhōu Hǔchén and Shuāng Yáng), some of them in use for twenty years.
An Xteink X4 e-reader running CrossPoint, the open-source firmware.
CDs, on an Aiwa XC-700 player, a Pioneer A-400 amplifier and Wharfedale speakers.
A Garmin Forerunner 165, with the data pulled down to my own machine. How.
AT WORK
Microsoft’s: Power Platform and Dynamics 365.
