Moon Gate
A desktop wallpaper painted entirely in code, with one line carved into the stone.
A Chinese garden wall with a round moon gate, a flowering plum bough, bamboo and mist beyond, and one line of text carved into the rim of the gate. There is no source image: the whole scene is drawn as SVG, so the inscription is cut into the stone in the same pass that paints it, lit from the same direction as everything else.
It re-renders three times a day so the light follows the clock: golden morning, bright afternoon, silver evening, with the sun or moon travelling across the gate. On my own desk the inscription is the one task that matters today.
A small Swift tool renders the page in an off-screen WebKit view and sets it on every desktop Space, and only when the pixels have actually changed.
